Mini-Course: How to Speak Pashto - Lesson 4 - Present Tense First Person

When you are starting your journey on how to learn Pashto, the very first thing you need to master is the "identity" ending. In the KPK dialect , especially the way we speak in Kohat , the verb usually comes at the very end of the sentence. This is where the rules of Yam and Yu come into play. The word Yam (یم) is used exclusively for yourself. Whenever you start a sentence with " Za " (meaning I), you must finish it with "Yam." It functions like the word "am" in English. For instance, if you want to tell someone you are fine, you say "Za kha yam." Whether you are hungry, tired, or happy, as long as you are talking about yourself, "Yam" is your anchor. It is a simple pattern that builds immediate confidence in your speaking ability. On the other hand, we have Yu (یو). This is the plural form used when you are talking as a group. In our culture, the "we" is often more important than the "I...

How To Develop Delightful Mobile Apps

These days, the use of mobile apps is in full swing. The mobile app industry has already crossed a critical figure of $190 billion in revenue in 2025. The trend is no different in Pakistan either. Smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices make up a considerable chunk of internet users here. As the user base increases, the number of apps follows suit. Indigenously developed apps for professional and personal use are surging. The quality and user experience are the determining factors for an app's success. Follow these 5 tips to develop apps that users love:

1. Don't forget the offline experience

Not all areas have network coverage. Despite the high mobile phone density, remote areas in the country still lack the infrastructure to support 24/7 online access. Similarly, power outages are a regular feature in urban areas. Keep in mind this fact when planning for app development. Decide on the offline usability factor of your app. Make sure that most of the features in your app work during offline sessions.

2. Make newbies your benchmark for design and UI/UX

Although the number of people who use smartphones is increasing, this doesn’t mean that they are conversant with them. They may have transitioned from ordinary feature phones to smartphones recently. Cell phone literacy is another variable that will affect your design. The design should be simple enough for a new user to navigate easily. Test your app with a friend who is not well-versed in smartphone use. See how they perform, and where they get stuck, and make sure the app is intuitive, attractive, and fun to use. Change your design accordingly.

3. Keep different Operating Systems in mind

The mobile internet market is divided among different Operating Systems. Consider these differences before designing the app. Android remains the most popular in the subcontinent, holding 72.84% of the market share in 2023. Apple's iOS is also gaining popularity, with a 26.34% market share. Other less lesser-known OS are also found in mobile devices.

4. Cross-platform functionality

Make sure your app works across different platforms seamlessly, e.g., tablets, smartphones, and desktops. Try to cover as many platforms as possible. Use a Responsive Design strategy to create apps that are flexible and customizable for different platforms. Responsive design refers to the idea that an app or website changes its layout, fonts, and graphics according to the hosting device.

5. Don't ignore Grids

Grid is an excellent tool to keep your app design consistent and on track across multiple pages. Grids make your app a unified whole rather than a haphazard collection of pages. Consistency in graphics, fonts, and icons creates a professional look. Not to mention, it reflects your brand image.

Mobile Application Development is still a growing trend in Pakistan. If you follow these practices, you can create a loyal customer base that will be fruitful in the long run as the market continues to mature.
