Mini-Course: How To Speak Pashto - Lesson 3 "This is"

In this lesson of our Pashto mini-course, we focus on one of the most important and beginner-friendly grammar rules in Pashto: using “Da … de” to say “This is …”. Mastering this structure is a key milestone in How to speak Pashto , because it allows you to describe objects, places, and people from day one. In English, we say, “This is a house.” In Urdu, the equivalent is “Yeh ghar hai.” In Pashto, the same idea is expressed as “Da kor de.” Here, “Da” means this, “kor” means house, and “de” (pronounced like day but with a soft 'D' as in fa th er) works like is. This sentence structure is extremely common in everyday Pashto conversations and forms the foundation of Pashto language basics. Pashto also has masculine and feminine nouns , just like Urdu. For masculine nouns, we commonly use “de”, while feminine nouns often use “da” depending on context and dialect. At the beginner level, focusing on commonly used masculine examples helps learners build confidence ...

Corporate Wisdom - What Rumi Can Teach Us About Work And Business

The teachings of Rumi, a 13th-century Sufi poet and philosopher, offer timeless insights that resonate just as much in the corporate boardroom as they do in the spiritual journey. In this post, we’ll explore one of Rumi’s profound parables—the donkey and a load of salt—and uncover a valuable lesson for modern professionals on the dangers of shortcuts and the importance of integrity in our work.

The Parable of the Donkey and the Load of Salt

In one of Rumi's tales, a merchant loads his donkey with sacks of salt and sets off to the market. On the way, they pass through a river. The donkey, realizing that the water dissolves the salt, lies down in the river to lighten its load. Relieved of much of its burden, the donkey is pleased with its clever trick. But the merchant, aware of the deception, decides to fill the sacks with sponges on their next journey. When they reach the river again, the donkey lies down as before, but this time, the sponges absorb water, and the load becomes unbearably heavy.

The Lesson for Professionals

Rumi's story highlights the consequences of taking shortcuts. In the corporate world, professionals might be tempted to cut corners or take the easy way out, thinking it will lighten their workload or reduce stress. However, just as the donkey found its load heavier after its supposed clever trick, professionals may find that shortcuts eventually lead to more difficulties, whether in the form of lost trust, decreased productivity, or missed opportunities.

The lesson here is to approach tasks with integrity and diligence. Short-term gains from shortcuts are often outweighed by long-term consequences. True success comes from steady, consistent effort. Professionals should be wary of the easy way out and focus on sustainable growth and ethical practices, which, in the end, lead to more meaningful and lasting achievements.
